Workshop Wonders

Whether you have been using Soapy Gnome soap for years, or you have just found our shop, I will be giving you a behind the scenes look in our workshop.

My name is Jaime and I am the production manager here at Soapy Gnome.

Jenny, the owner and original soap maker, has shared her knowledge and talents with me so that I am able to help her keep producing all the high-quality products that make you feel amazing in your skin.

Watch for my “Workshop Wonders” every month as I break down ingredients, compare products, talk about science, and more.

What’s So Special About Buttermilk?

One of the core ingredients in our soap is buttermilk. We love it so much we highlight it on our labels right under our name!

Buttermilk has a beautifully creamy lather similar to goat's milk.

Did you know that the use of buttermilk in skincare dates back to the times of Cleopatra? A woman known for her beautiful and glowing skin, bathed in buttermilk on a regular basis.

What we didn't know when Soapy Gnome started making buttermilk soaps is that Goshen was home to the Cosmo Buttermilk Soap Company from 1896-1910 for which the building now called the Old Bag Factory was originally constructed.

Buttermilk comes from the process of taking the cream from whole milk and separating it into fat (butter) and liquid (buttermilk). This leftover liquid from making butter contains lovely ingredients like lactic acid, potassium, vitamin B12, calcium, riboflavin, phosphorus, and thiamine.

On top of creating a rich, silky, and creamy lather in soap, buttermilk gently exfoliates, moisturizes, and minimizes the appearance of pores. Basically, buttermilk is a powerhouse ingredient to help exfoliate and leave your complexion feeling fresh.

Who wouldn’t want to make buttermilk part of your regular skin care routine?

Nice idea to give info like this
Wondering if you can do special things. I have some scrubbiest that I would like to have endured with bath soap. Could you do that?

P.S. lemon/lime or banana/ chocolate scented tiger salamander soap idea for the new kids line.
